CHARITY SUSSEX CHARITY PROFILE: The Starr Trust Based in Hove, The Starr Trust is an independent, family-run charity formed to support young people aged 10-18 to fulfil their potential through sports, arts and education by giving them a helping hand to achieve their goals at a time when they really need it. The charity’s income comes entirely from community fundraising and events, and donations from generous companies and individuals. We spoke to Nicole Carman at The Starr Trust to find out more. Hi Nicole. What does The Starr Trust do exactly, and why is it so important? We want to help as many young people aged 10-18 who live within the BN postcode as we possibly can and we champion young people to be the best that they can be, so we give out financial grants to help them fulfil their potential through sports, arts, or education. The work we do can be life changing. For example, we provided a custom built racing bike for a young wheelchair user from Worthing with cerebral palsy. He absolutely loves sport and desperately wanted to race, but his family were struggling with the high costs of a racing chair. A year on, aged just 13, he is now competing at national level, winning medals and looking to represent Team GB in the 2020 Paralympics. He is living his dream. Every young person we help has a story, be it a dream they want to fulfil, or that they simply need to know there is someone out there who truly cares about them. and funding over a number of years. One of our young champions has been with us now for five years and we’ve watched him grow into a remarkable and confident young man; t
