NEXT GENERATION RADIO STATION, PLATFORM B,
AWARDED FM LICENCE
Platform B, Brighton’s first ever youth-led radio
station, has been awarded a community FM
licence by government broadcast regulator,
Ofcom. The not-for-profit station will start
broadcasting on FM in the autumn of 2016,

who want to reimagine and diversify the
traditional sounds of radio.
Platform B currently runs pop-up broadcasts
online from the Green Door Store, an

the coming months, broadcasts will continue
to flow from there, as well as other venues
including Brighton Youth Centre, recording
studios, pop-up stores, and at various public
spaces and events.
Nats Spada, station manager at Platform B,

young adults radio lacks the vibrancy and
interactivity of the social media platforms they

reboot and the possibilities are limitless; we
hope Platform B will inspire Brighton’s young
people to get involved in reimagining radio.”
Working like a pirate radio station, Platform
B will challenge the formal infrastructure of
traditional radio, moving out of the studio and
into public spaces, to increase visibility, access
and engagement.
Every aspect of Platform B will be managed
and implemented by young adults. It will
offer access and personal development
opportunities to young people, schools,
colleges and community groups. As the
programming develops to a twenty-four seven
service, Pla
