Linescapes Architectural Portraits
Linescapes specialises in illustrations of
architectural landmarks, iconic buildings
and house portraits. Ever since she was a
child, company founder, Amalia Sanchez de
la Blanca, has been at her happiest when
drawing; a skill that has been a central part of
her life in Spain, America and in the UK, where
her talents were recognised with a master’s
degree from the esteemed Royal College of
Art.
It was in Los Angeles in the early 90s that
Amalia first started to appreciate architecture,
in particular the modernist Case Study Houses
that dot the city and which captured her eye.
This inspired her to become an architect, but
from the start of this journey her instincts have
always pulled her towards the artistic side of
architecture, rather than the technical.
The tension that exists between Amalia’s
artistic passion and the technical demands
of her job has been present throughout her
career, but it was when she moved to Brighton
that she finally realised she didn’t have to be
torn between architecture and drawing and
that she could, in fact, blend them.
Using her distinct style, she represents the
clichéd in a fresh way. Living in Brighton, the
beauty of the city’s many unique buildings
inspired her immediately, so she decided to
capture their artistry as well as celebrating
‘ordinary’, less celebrated homes by adding
commissioned house portraits to her portfolio.
Amalia’s architectural collection is constantly
expanding and future projects include
landmarks from major cities and a collection
of modernist buildings, as well as private
commissions. “Architecture is a highly
functional creative expression, so for a while
I was able to fulfil my artistic needs, but after
years of being an architect I realised that it
wasn’t enough for me,” she said. “I was an
artist doing an architect’s job, so I left to pursue
my passion: to draw buildings that fascinate
me – from modernist buildings by some of my
heroes such as Lubetkin, to iconic landmarks,
but in my own, understated, elegant style.”
