Typically, noticeable discoloration begins in the late 20s and early 30s, and a variety of factors can speed up the discoloration process including chemical staining from drinking caffeine and smoking; a genetic predisposition to early yellowing; and the onset of gum and tooth disease. Brighton Implant Clinic will match your current tooth color to their charts and show the number of shades you can expect to improve through a variety of tooth whitening treatments that are available either in the surgery, or at home. The level of whiteness that can be achieved will depend on the level of discoloration of the teeth and how they came to be stained. At Brighton Implant Clinic, all of the dentists are highly trained in cosmetic dental procedures such as tooth whitening. They offer both ‘in the chair’ whitening treatments, as well as home-whitening solutions. With tooth whitening carried out in the chair, the dentist will use a laser/LED light to activate a special gel which is applied to your teeth. This provides instant results with a few applications and teeth will usually appear 4-5 shades lighter after this treatment. The main advantage of this treatment is that the results are immediate. With homewhitening kits, special trays are made in a dental laboratory; an overnight gel is applied to these 74 custom trays, which are then worn overnight. The gel works to remove pigments and stains on teeth and although the process takes a little longer, it will usually achieve the same amount of whitening as the in-chair solution. In-chair ‘Zoom whitening’ costs £295, while at-home whitening trays are priced at £195 Brighton Implant Clinic & Advanced Dentistry was established in 2009, in Hove, and now has branches in Hove, Brighton, Worthing and Hailsham.
