Set at the foot of the South Downs and Devil’s
Dyke, there’s no better place to take the weight of
your feet after a long walk in the country than The
Royal Oak. With a friendly, welcoming team who
are always happy to have a chat, and great food
including pub classics and some superb specials,
this is a truly local pub with a very wide appeal.
Food is locally sourced wherever possible,
including some of the more unusual ingredients
they use such as quince jelly and honeycomb ice
cream. A large pub garden for warmer weather
and a big open fire for when it’s cold makes The
Royal Oak a treat whatever the weather.
With a history dating back to the 18th century,
this charming blend of old and new is a pub
to remember. Located at the foot of Devil’s
Dyke, the pub prides itself on lovely local ales
and amazing food, and visitors often travel for
miles to grab a table and enjoy the fantastic
atmosphere. The menu is comforting, but
modern and there is an outdoor dining area
with the most spectacular views across the
South Downs. Live entertainment is often put
on here too, which adds an extra bonus to an
already excellent pub.
This brilliant pub likes to switch things up a bit,
so if you are looking to try something unusual
and unique, the ales and beers available here
should suit your tastes. Varieties include lemon
meringue pie, peach and grapefruit – and yes,
these are just the beers. When the sun is shining,
you can take a big jug of cold Pimm’s into the
lovely garden and enjoy the sun, and if hunger
strikes, order one of their renowned burgers, or
something just as tasty from the locally sourced,
homemade choices on the menu, which include
a cheesy chip fondue, homemade fishfinger
sandwiches, and chicken katsu curry.
