ARTS+ENTERTAINMENT BRIGHTON FRINGE SHOWS THAT CELEBRATE SUSSEX Brighton Fringe, England’s largest arts festival, returns to all sorts of locations across the city on May 6 and runs until June 5, putting on an incredible array of performances from cabaret to comedy, theatre and dance. Committed to helping the arts flourish, the festival stages over 900 events throughout the month and is completely open-access, which means anyone can put on a Brighton Fringe event. That said, it has grown out of and is inspired by home-grown talent; more than 50 percent of participants are based in Brighton and Hove, so we’ve selected our top Fringe picks from the shows that celebrate Sussex. The free exhibition at Brighton Station is the fruit of one man’s labour, Brighton-based commercial photographer, Danny Fitzpatrick. The Brighton Killers is the brand new second part of a macabre coupling (the first being award-winning play, In Conversation with an Acid Bath Murderer), and promises to give a chilling insight into the mind of a murderer as four of Brighton's most notorious killers, including the Acid Bath Murderer, John Haigh, tell you their true-life stories. “Although the play sounds dark, there’s a lot of humour,” says writer and actor, Nigel Fairs. “And really, the whole thing plays out like a seduction. What actually connects Haigh and all the others - apart from Brighton and the Old Police Cells - is their absolute belief that they were doing ‘the right thing’, and that's what we're exploring with both plays. The atmosphere of the cells and the fact that the murderers will be ta
