First and foremost, what qualifies as organic in the world of beauty? At
present, there are no regulations in place from a legal standpoint, but the
Soil Association, a membership charity that campaigns for planet-friendly
food and farming, can certify brands 'organic'. Soil Association's trade
relations manager, Emma Reinhold, explains: “Our standards are high but
this means that the product on your shelf is the real deal. For a beauty
product to be endorsed by us as organic, it needs to contain at least 95%
of organic ingredients. If the product has less than this (75%-95%), they
can be labelled as made with xx% organic ingredients. Nothing below this
percentage would be considered truly organic by us.”

But today the ever increasing – and impressive – market of organic produce
is enough to make even the most discerning of beauty buyers go green.
