CHARITY Age UK www.ageuk.org.uk Sussex Police www.sussex.police.uk Age UK is a nationwide community service (as part of its remit it offers a home from hospital service, a take home and settle service, foot care, healthy living clubs, clubs to prevent loneliness in old age, and Macmillan Home Support for those living with cancer) that has a number of different ways to volunteer across East Sussex. Whether you feel you would be able to make a difference being a day case assistant, a receptionist, taking people home from hospital and settling them in, as well as visiting on a regular basis, or even being a ‘buddy’ for those in need, AgeUK will be happy to hear from you. Even if you’ve never considered a career with the police until now, Sussex Police are looking for volunteers to help with the day-to-day tasks that are needed for the smooth running of the force. As long as you are over 18, enthusiastic, live within Sussex, and have lived in the UK for at least three years, there could be the opportunity for you. Roles include becoming a special constable (a volunteer police officer in uniform), supporting neighbourhood watch schemes, recording lost and found property, and administrative work. You won’t need to speak directly to victims or suspects, but you will help the police to do their job. All training will be given, and there are no minimum hours required (although there is a maximum of 10 hours per week). Active Sussex www.activesussex.org According to Active Sussex, seven out of 10 sports clubs in the UK need additional volunteers in order to continue the important work they do. Would you like to be one of those volunteers? Do you have the skills and the knowledge needed to pass on to the next generation of sporting athletes? If so, then why not register with Active Sussex’s volunteering network? You will receive regular updates of any sporting volunteering opportunities close to you and you will be able to help out with grassroots sports clubs in your area. Active Sussex’s main goal is to increase participation in sport at a local level, and to create opportunities for people to enjoy physical activity at a level, a time, and in a place that suits them best. 94
