Goodwood Festival of
SPEED
THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF S
THIS YEAR RUNNING F
T THAT SHOWCASES THE BEST OF THE BEST WHEN
IT COMES TO HISTORIC AND IMPRESSIVE MOTOR RACING VEHICLES. THIS
YEAR’S THEME IS ‘FAST AND FEARLESS: RACING ON THE EDGE’.
Fans who attend the Festival of Speed can see
cars and motorbikes from across the ages –
including a number of famous ones – and the
drivers who took them over the line. It’s an event
that must not be missed for those who love
motorsports and Formula 1, and since it takes
place in the beautiful grounds of Goodwood, it
has everything anyone could want for a fun and
exciting day out.
Since it was founded by Lord March in 1993,
the Goodwood Festival of Speed has grown
hugely, and attracts tens of thousands into
the grounds of the Goodwood Estate and
Goodwood Circuit. It is a four-day event that
has a number of different shows and races, so
no matter what era of vehicle is your favourite,
you’ll be able to watch it go. There’s nothing
quite like it.
Mazda Tribute
The 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed will
pay tribute to the innovation and achievements
in motoring and motorsport by Mazda with a
spectacular Central Feature in honour of the
Japanese manufacturer.
Goodwood Festival of Speed history. Last year’s
Supercar Run was the first to be run against
the clock, and resulted in victory for the Nissan
GT-R NISMO ‘Time Attack’ driven by Jann
Mardenborough in a new supercar record for
the Goodwood Hillclimb.
Americana
The 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed will
feature the largest participation in the history of
the event from American motorsport, with an
increased presence from the NASCAR fraternity
and debuts from two exciting series never
before seen on UK shores. Legendary NASCAR
team Richard Childress Racing returns with one
of Dale Earnhardt’s #3 Chevrolets to be driven
by his son Kerry, plus 2000 Cup champion
Bobby Labonte, who is making his first trip to
Goodwood in a current-spec Chevrolet
Impala SS.
Running against the TAG Heuer timing systems
on Saturday 27th June, the Supercar run is set
to feature a glittering array of exotica including
the brand-new 986bhp track-focused McLaren
P1 GTR and Koenigsegg’s first attempt at
what it calls a ‘luxury megacar’; the sensational
1500bhp Regera.
Fearless But Flat Broke
While the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed
proudly celebrates the theme ‘Flat-Out and
Fearless – Racing on the Edge’, an all-new
category for the Hillclimb will celebrate those
that put everything into reaching Formula 1,
but never quite achieved the success that they
craved. ‘Fearless but Flat-Broke’ shines a light
on the teams that, despite limited resources,
followed their dream of making it to motor
racing’s highest level and bravely took on
powerhouses such as Ferrari, McLaren, Lotus
and Williams.
All are expected to face strong opposition
from a string of manufacturers including Aston
Martin, Bentley, BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari,
Jaguar, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lotus, MercedesBenz, Noble – which achieved second spot
last year thanks to the efforts of Anthony Reid –
Porsche, Rolls Royce and Zenvo.
The amazing turbocharged Honda-engined
SCG 003, which was unveiled at the Geneva
Motor Show and appeared – in race trim – at
the Nurburgring last weeken d – is also set to
take part in the Supercar Run.
Some of the highlights include:
Moving Motor Show
Eighteen of the world’s largest car
manufacturers will appear at the Moving Motor
Show presented by The AA in association with
The Telegraph, which kicks off the Goodwood
Festival of Speed on Thursday, 25th June
this year.
The Moving Motor Show is unique in giving
motor manufacturers a dynamic platform on
which to showcase their very latest models
and providing an opportunity for visitors to
Goodwood to, in some cases, get behind
the wheel themselves and tackle a speciallyconstructed course around the Festival of
Speed grounds.
Michelin Supercar Run
This year’s Michelin Supercar Run is set to be
the largest and most dramatic ever staged in
14
Fiat S76
The Fiat S76, unofficially the fastest car in the
world in 1911, will make its first public run for
over 100 years when it tackles the Goodwood
Festival of Speed Hillclimb as part of a special
category of an earth-shattering Edwardian
leviathans.
