DAYSOUT The National Gardens Scheme The National Gardens Scheme has been opening gardens of quality, character and interest since 1927 and has donated over £24 million to its beneficiary charities in the last 10 years. 2 Quarry Cottages Ringmer Caxton Manor Last year alone they donated £2.5 million to the charities it supports. The NGS is Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest ever donor, having given £14.8m. It is also Marie Curie Cancer Care’s biggest ever donor and has given them £6.9m. Some other beneficiaries are Hospice UK and Carers Trust. Over 3,800 gardens will open on behalf of the National Gardens Scheme in 2015 across the UK. The average admission charge for adults is great value at close to £3.90 and many will admit under 16s for free with many providing that all-important tea and homemade cake experience! A day visiting a garden is exceptional value for money and many are near to where you live; in Sussex there are over 200 private and commercial gardens to see this season. The majority only ever open for the National Gardens Scheme and can be small or large, open alone or as part of a group. Here is a selection of Sussex gardens open for your enjoyment in May.
