Boogaloo Stu Crimplene Millionaire
created some of the most memorable music
designs of the last 30 years, makes a welcome
return.
As ever, this vast celebration of all things
creative boasts a massive array of quirky
experiences including Brighton’s Singing Barber,
who serenades audience members as he styles
their hair; Pint Sized Plays performed across
Brighton pubs; a musical about Doctor Who;
and a rock n’ roll roller derby. Those feeling
brave can try their hand at Crimplene Millionaire,
Boogaloo Stu’s board game experience
extraordinaire; join the Great Superhero Debate;
spend some time in a beach hut with fading
shopping channel star Chris Titmas; or immerse
themselves in a fully sensory, technicolour
musical offering from You Cry Wolf.
A total of 172 venues will host Brighton Fringe
events including the ever-popular Spiegeltent,
which returns to the Old Steine; Sussex Country
Cricket Club, where a wedding reception with
a difference will be performed. Otherplace
Productions celebrates 10 years of Brighton
Fringe with its biggest programme yet. The
flourishing Brighton-based production company
has now taken up residency in The Basement,
Dade Freeman
one of Brighton’s leading arts venues, and is
relocating its large scale, pop-up Fringe venue,
The Warren, to the grounds of St Peter’s Church
in the heart of the city.
Brighton Fringe’s commitment to nurturing
artistic talent continues with a host of bursaries
and support programmes including WINDOW,
a week of high quality new works that Brighton
Fringe showcases to arts industry professionals
and audiences alike, enabling artists to take
the next step in their careers. New this year is
a Legal and General bursary scheme for 12
artists aged 60 and over. Young artists are also
supported via bursaries from the Pebble Trust
and O2’s Think Big scheme.
More than 50 family shows are on offer
including the Brighton Fringe family picnic,
served up in the stunning Pavilion Gardens on
the two bank holiday Saturdays in May (May
2 and 23). The ever-popular Fringe City, a free
showcase of theatre, art installations, interactive
performances, puppetry, poetry, live music and
more, will take place each weekend. Fringe City
alone attracted around 50,000 visitors in 2014
with similar numbers expected this year.

Julian Caddy, managing director at Brighton
Fringe, said: “That Brighton Fringe continues
to grow is a great thing, but in order to remain
strong, we must always be developing what
is on offer, both for artists and the public.
This year sees us return with a new improved
WINDOW showcase in the first week and some
unforgettable, award-winning international acts,
which demonstrates our growing worldwide
appeal.
“Brighton Fringe is more than just a festival; it is
a living, breathing, year-round artistic ecosystem
that needs to be sustained. With the right
support we will continually reach out to more
and more people, so we thank all our partners
for their continued confidence in us. We look
forward to working with you for many years to
come.”
