EDUCATION CELEBRATING ITS CULTURAL DIVERSITY, BUCKSWOOD SCHOOL EATS ITS WAY AROUND THE WORLD Students with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor Every year in March, Buckswood School hold an ‘International Day’ which is a colourful celebration of the school’s cultural diversity and with over 420 students from 50 different nations, the afternoon is filled with sights, sounds, flavours and costumes from around the world. The Buckswood Sports Hall was overtaken by the students who held stalls to represent their country, decorating it with their national colours and flags, playing music, dressing in their national costumes and selling traditional food from their country to raise money for charity. This year’s charity was the SKIPPERS HILL EQUESTRIAN TEAM’S COMPETITION SUCCESS Good Shepherd Hospital in Swaziland, which the school visit every year to see the good work carried out there to help families devastated by AIDS. This year’s event was the best ever, and through shear hard-work and grit, the students raised £2,000 which will be presented to the Good Shepherd Hospital in order for them to buy much needed supplies. Mark Redsell, Headteacher, said “International Day is always an enlightening event in every sense. For the rest of the year, we are one school and are blind to race, colour and background, but on International Day the school is a blaze of colour in celebration of our diversity. I think Buckswood is unique in this respect in the area; we have 200 local children who come in every day to study with 220 others from all around the world. They learn so much from each other and develop a truly global outlook and attitude towards the future. They see no boarders, or barriers, only opportunities to branch out into the world.” BEDE’S LEGAT SCHOOL OF DANCE TAKE PART IN RICHARD ALSTON DANCE COMPANY WORKSHOP  Dancers from the Legat School of Dance at Bede’s took part in a Richard Alston Dance Company workshop, delivered by company member Liam Riddick. Legat student Susie Lowe explained, “The workshop started with a Cunningham Technique class and it was great to see that the company warm-up class Liam delivered was not too dissimilar to the training we receive here every day!” The students then learnt a piece called ‘Gypsy Mixture’, that contains folk movement and focuses on the style and phrasing of the music. Susie continued, “It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we all learnt so much – thank you to Liam for such a wonderful experience!” A team of young riders from Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School in Mayfield, recently competed in two National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) events, achieving fantastic results.  These were the first competitions for the girls, aged 8-11, since Skippers Hill joined the NSEA in December, and
