news CAROLINE’S DAIRY WINS GOLD MEDAL IN THE 2015 NATIONAL ICE CREAM COMPETITION Chichester based ice cream makers, Caroline’s Dairy, are celebrating after scooping a top award at this year’s National Ice Cream Competition, which took place at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate in March. Caroline Spiby and her team were awarded the much-coveted Gold Medal in the Salted Caramel Class as well as a Special Diploma of Merit in the Dairy Ice Cream Artisan Class for their Double Dairy flavour, a Special Diploma of Merit in the Chocolate Class, and a Diploma of Merit for their Maple Ripple and a Diploma for their Panna Cotta and Balsamic Strawberry ice cream in the Open Flavour Class. Zelica Carr, Chief Executive of The Ice Cream Alliance said: “The ice cream industry continues to flourish and the quality and flavour is increasing every year thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of ice cream makers like Caroline. She thoroughly deserves this award.” Having launched in 2008, Caroline’s Dairy produce luxury handmade ice cream and sorbets from their working dairy farm in Sidlesham. The ice cream is made in small batches, using only the milk from their cows which is then combined with carefully sourced ingredients and locally produced fruit to make over 20 delicious flavours of ice cream and five sorbets. TO CELEBRATE BRIGHTON STORE’S BE ON SHOW IN TICEHURST FROM 1st APRIL FIRST BIRTHDAY It’s well known in the industry that the Scottish Universities have a reputation for producing some of the best jewellers in the country, which is why Artichoke Gallery, Ticehurst are thrilled to be showcasing five of these jewellers, all of whom have successfully exhibited at the prestigious Goldsmiths Fair in London. “Between Land and Sea” opens 1st April to 27th June 2015, and showcases the following jewellers: Grace Girvan, born and raised in the Orkney Islands, studies the Scottish shorelines to convey a sense of calm, employing a restrained enamel colour palette of soft greens and blues, combined with pebbles, driftwood and precious metals. Heather McDermott, based in the Isle of Skye, is more affected by the forces of the sea and the industrial, commercial coast using stainless steel and vivid colours. Stacey Bentley, Elizabeth Jane Campbell and Scarlet Cohen French all won the Guild of Enamellers Bursary during their studies and are continuing to push the boundaries of enamel techniques.
