The launch event in January was a unique and exciting occasion with a terrific atmosphere that attracted many celebrities including former England Rugby captain and a member of England’s World Cup winning squad in 2003, Phil Vickery; actress Julie Graham from BBC1’s Death in Paradise and also patron of Chestnut Tree House; actress Carol Cleveland, the only significant female performer on Monty Python’s Flying Circus; Actress Carol Harrison, famous for her part as Louise Raymond in Eastenders, and many more. Caffyns, who are celebrating their 150th year, used the launch to support two charities for the evening: Wooden Spoon, dedicated to helping children and young people who are disadvantaged physically, mentally or socially by using sport as a method of improving lives; and Chestnut Tree House, the only children’s hospice in Sussex looking after over 300 children with life limiting illnesses and their families. They have recently been given planning permission to build a new 30,000 square metre Technology and Logistics Centre on Oldlands Farm. Work has started on the site and they expect to occupy from early next year. The University of Chichester’s Bognor Regis campus, which includes its Business School, is very close to the site. They are moving forward with their ambitious £15m plans to develop this site and create a new Engineering and Digital Technology Park. As part of the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growth Deal with the Government, the University has recently been awarded £8m to launch this project. Another key milestone ticked off is the opening of the first part of £27m North Bersted Relief Road in December which will assist with improving journey times along the A259. There has also been £13m worth of grant funding for improvements towards the nearby A29 and the Government has also confirmed £350m will be spent on the A27, including the Arundel by-pass. Two prime development opportunities, superbly located on and near Bognor Regis seafront are also being progressed by the Council. The Regis and Hothamton sites will provide prestigious new developments that match the town’s aspirations for a vibrant, busy and high quality tourism and leisure destination. The Council is also looking for ideas on how best to develop both sites. A consultation for organisations with ideas has just closed and the next for the public to express their ideas will be opening soon. Major new improvements to the paving and seating in Bognor Regis town centre and the new café in Hotham Park-opening soon and offering fresh produce including homemade cakes, ice cream and pizza-are just some of the reasons to visit Bognor Regis.
