Corinthia Group.
David Abulafia is also a Fellow of the
British Academy, which awarded
him its inaugural British Academy
Medal in 2013 for his best-selling

History of the Mediterranean. He
has also written extensively about
the history of Italy and Sicily, often
touching on the history of Malta.
INSIDER SPECIAL EDITION
Alfred Pisani was intimately involved
in planning and building the Corinthia Palace Hotel in his early twenties. This was the very start of what
now has developed into the Corinthia Group. He was actively involved
in running this hotel until the Group
started adding to its activities and he
took a greater role in setting strategy
and implementing growth through
acquisitions and development. Although the Group has expanded into
nine countries and now has a more
streamlined corporate structure,
Pisani is still very much involved in
strategy and standards.
Insider Special Edition asked some
of the personalities involved in
the Foundation for their views.
Alfred Pisani says that “The Mediterranean is the common home to
many nations which share a way of
life, strong values and a long tradition of hospitality. It has been
the birthplace of many civilisations, the remains of which are all
around us and which attract visitors from all over the globe. He is
a firm believer in quality in all its
forms and thinks that small islands
like Malta have their physical limits
and cannot withstand uncontrolled
growth. We should make every effort to improve the unique features
of our environment in all its facets,
both urban and rural.”
