Lockdown Hair - Do Care!
Aside from the fact that we are indeed seeing people
(in some cases more than usual!), as we utilise social
platforms to communicate with everyone from loved
ones to work colleagues and even your child’s class
teacher, taking time to groom ourselves is very
important. Just as it is important to exercise and to
eat healthily, looking after our appearance and hair
health is just as important for our mental health too.
Whether you actually have more time to yourself,
or less than ever, we owe it to ourselves to look after
our assets.
So where do we start with haircare at home?
I always recommend that my clients nurture their
hair, and this is the time to do so; more time on your
hands? Then invest time in a new routine. If you
feel you are frantically juggling working from home,
are still out in the front line, and/or have children
to home-school (yes that struggle is real!), then some
time out for a new hair ritual offers a great escape
and some dual purpose “me-time”.
I personally now take leisurely baths, starting with
shampooing my hair; then rinse; and then use a
treatment which is left on for 15-20 minutes while
I soak away.
After the bath I use oils to smooth and moisturise
my hair, which in my case is definitely needed, and
leave it to dry naturally.
Aside from treating yourself and your hair, you can
also give back to the planet too - by choosing the
best environmentally friendly, ethical hair products.
My go to is the OWAY biodynamic care range.
The Rebuilding range offers deep regenerative
treatments, such as the Rebuilding Hair Mask
(£28.50), which is perfect for damaged hair. For
hair and skin that has excess sebum (that’s oily to
you and I), opt for the Sebum Balance Hair
Bath (£26.50), from the Rebalancing range which
44
will detox and restore both hair and skin. Whilst the
ultra-delicate Soothing products, including the
wonderful Soothing Remedy (£38), are perfect
for those with red and sensitive skin.

Nurturing complete, why not become creative with
styling your hair? Grab some new accessories, distract
from those roots and if it goes wrong, relax, no one
will see! Who knows you may discover a new you in
the process. If you are stuck with ideas please reach
out to your stylist who would be happy to advise.
My only word of caution, (which is shared by my
hairdressing community across the nation),
I do not recommend anyone to self colour or cut
their hair! Unless you are trained, I am seriously
against this option, not only can it be dangerous, it
will also undermine all the fantastic work your
hairdresser has done for you, and will be a minefield
of correction once salons reopen. If you absolutely
can’t survive with a few roots, then check out
Organic Colour System’s Root Remedy, for
a temporary touch up!
As lockdown continues and social distancing
becomes the norm, your hairdressers are missing
you just as much as you are missing them! In fact,
I have contacted all my clients offering one to one
consultation to help them with dealing with their
hair at home. This is good for all of us, I get
to use my skills and experience, and my clients get
to try something different with styling and
treating their hair.
