LYDD AIRPORT MADE PERMANENT
HOME OF SEARCH AND RESCUE
HELICOPTERS IN THE SOUTH EAST
The Department for
Transport has announced
that Lydd Airport will be the
permanent base for
the UK Coastguard’s search
and rescue helicopter
services in the South East.
The UK Search and Rescue
Helicopter Service has
operated out of Lydd Airport
on a temporary basis since
August 2015. The decision
to make this arrangement
permanent will enable the operators, Bristow Helicopters Ltd, to push ahead
with plans to build a new £7 million search and rescue helicopter hangar
at the airport.
The new hangar will house two state-of-the-art search and rescue helicopters
that will operate a lifesaving service around the clock.
Transport minister Robert Goodwill said: "The UK Coastguard’s Search and
Rescue Team in Lydd already play a vital role in emergency lifesaving
operations in the South East and the decision to make this the permanent
base for the service will be much welcomed by the crew and the operator.
"This will give the crew real certainty about their future with the service,
allowing them to put down roots in the local community, and will allow
Bristow Helicopters Ltd to push ahead with their plans to build a new, stateof-the-art facility."
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency and its contractor Bristow Helicopters
will be working closely with the airport owners and the local community at
Lydd over the coming months as the development of this new facility starts.
LOCAL BUSINESS ON BOARD FOR
CREATE’S NEW FOUNTAIN STAGE
The Create Music Festival is very pleased to announce Right Track Music,
a long-time event partner, is the sponsor of the new Create Fountain Stage.
The family owned and community minded music shop, tuition and studios
based at Henwood Industrial Estate will help Create celebrate its 21st
birthday, by showcasing a wide range of community acts and young local
talent.
The new stage, with its stunning Grade II listed Hubert Fountain backdrop,
will help share the story of the fountain’s remarkable history through street
theatre, craft making, parades and a spectacular finale performance.
The Cathedral Lodge in Canterbury has been selected to be included in the
hitched.co.uk favourite city wedding venues across the UK.
Create also falls exactly on Mr Harper’s 175th birthday, the man who gifted
the fountain to Victoria Park in 1912 through an act of philanthropy.
Hitched.co.uk is the UK’s most popular free wedding resource website and
it looked at cities across the UK to find the best city wedding venues to
inspire couples searching for the perfect place to say ‘I do’.
Directors of Right Track Music, Chris and Su Bailey, said: “We are pleased
to continue supporting the Create Festival, and can’t wait to be part of the
new Fountain Stage.”
The article says: “This striking wedding venue is set within the grounds of
the UNESCO designated world heritage site that is Canterbury Cathedral,
providing an incredible backdrop to your wedding snaps. The comfortable
bedrooms on site at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge have views of the Cathedral,
and those who stay can enjoy entry to the site as part of their visit.”
Festival organiser, Chris Dixon, said: “Over the years, Victoria Park has
benefitted from local philanthropy and contributions from wonderful people,
such as Mr Harper gifting the fountain. Right Track Music’s investment in
Create is no different, and I feel very fortunate to be supported by such a
relevant and forward thinking business.”
