EVENTS Prescriptions // 21 Apr – 14 Aug Julian Clary: The Joy of Mincing // 22 Apr The Joy of Mincing is Julian Clary's celebration of 30 years as a camp comedian. There is so much to tell you; the ups and downs of his sordid love life, the true and heart stopping account of how he saved Dame Joan Collins' life, and don’t start him on the perils of his DIY electrical home enema kit. On stage Julian will proudly wear his welldeserved M.B.E. (Mincer of the British Empire). It was the last thing he expected to receive when he knelt down in front of Prince Charles in the scullery at Buckingham Palace… And because Julian gives and gives (until it hurts) he will be handing out honours to the lucky few in the audience too. This is Julian at his filthy best. Live and unplugged. 8pm. Price: £23 Assembly Hall Theatre, Crescent Road, Tunbridge Wells TN1 2LU www.assemblyhalltheatre.co.uk / 01892 530613 © Tony Briggs The exhibition focuses on the book art of Martha Hall, on loan from the University of New England, and linked to a University of Kent symposium. Residential guests begin with a delicious afternoon tea followed by a spot of croquet on the lawn. Evening entertainment begins with ‘prohibition’ cocktails followed by a chance to try your hand at the art of falconry. For something more leisurely, relax on a wooden punt tour around the castle’s moat. A delicious three-course menu on a contemporary 1930’s theme will be served in the Henry VIII Banqueting Hall. A full English breakfast is served in the Castle Dining Room for residential guests to enjoy in the following morning. From 4pm. Price: From £130 per person. Leeds Castle, Maidstone ME17 1PL www.leeds-castle.com / 01622 765400 Host of BBC Radio 4’s Goes to Market and star of BBC1’s Live at the Apollo, Simon Evans has been immersing himself in economics for the last couple of years, like a pig immersing itself in organic cleansing elements. He has unpicked why the French don't want to own their own home (sex, obvs), why mass spectrometers reveal Americans to literally be made of corn, and why Alco-Synth – the effects of alcohol but with an effective antidote – is not likely to be appearing at a wine bar near you in the near future, despite having been invented years ago. As usual the whole thing deteriorates swiftly into a heartfelt rant about his children, but these are at least the lofty aspirations he starts with this time. Suitable for ages 14+. 8pm.
