See Turner Contemporary’s Sunley Gallery filled with paintings for the first
time, as the gallery showcases Kent-based artist Rose Wylie. Inspiration
for Wylie’s bold and large-scale paintings take ranges from early Renaissance
painting and contemporary Egyptian Hajj painting and remembered images
from films. Rose Wylie was born in Kent, where she still lives and works.
She studied at Folkestone and Dover School of Art (1952-6) and the Royal
College of Art, London (1979-81) and now, in her early eighties, is enjoying
renewed interest in her work in the UK and internationally. In 2010, Wylie
was described by Germaine Greer as ‘Britain’s hottest new artist’. The
exhibition is supported by Union Gallery.
