Opening Turner Contemporary’s 2016 season,
experience the work of leading Danish artist
Joachim Koester, paired with selected
watercolours by JMW Turner.
With around 20 works in film, photography
and sound, Koester plays with the art of
storytelling, taking you on a journey through
different times, places and states of
consciousness. From hypnosis and hallucination
to the psychedelic, weave your way through
Koester’s narratives and experience The Other
Side of the Sky.
Central to the exhibition and inspired by the
gallery’s namesake JMW Turner is a new film
commission, The Other Side of the Sky. Premiered
at Turner Contemporary and created especially
for the exhibition, Koester’s experiential film makes

and chemical ventures of the 1960s. See a group
of Turner watercolours shown alongside Koester’s
film, which offers a new perspective on the
painter’s later, watery landscapes.
