HEALTH+WELLNESS wellbeing IS THE WORD Defined by the Cambridge dictionary as 'the state of being healthy and happy', wellbeing is the buzzword that people are looking to right now to assess how content they are at work and in their personal lives. With the ever-increasing pace of life, wellbeing cannot always be easy to achieve or maintain; and with a large percentage of time spent at work, there is a responsibility on behalf of the employer and individual to identify the best ways to maintain wellbeing for the benefit of all. Now in its fourth year, The Wellbeing Symposium (held at the Kent Event Centre, Maidstone, on November 11th), brings together leading experts in health and wellbeing to hear the latest thinking on subjects such as nutrition, mental health, health insurance and resilience in the workplace. The first part of the symposium is a ticketonly event aimed at delegates such as employers, organisations, managers and team leaders, and is particularly beneficial for anyone involved in social housing, local authority, education, large business, SME and community support. Whereas from 1pm, the exhibition opens to the public, during which time free health checks are available as well as advice and help to achieve personal wellbeing. This years’ keynote speaker is one of Britain’s most successful Paralympians, Baroness GreyThompson, whose accolades include 11 gold Olympic medals, four silvers, one bronze, and the coveted BBC title of Sports Personality of the Year in 1992 and 2000. Tanni GreyThompson is a fantastic example of an individual who has not let her disability prevent her from achieving outstanding success in her career and personal life.
