DAYSOUT What’s on in THANET Below is a taster of other October events in Thanet… on stage to assist the Zoo Keeper - but be warned - not all of these ravenous reptiles are as tame as they seem! Each performance concludes with a post-show ‘meat and greet’ session offering every audience member a chance to meet the dinosaurs in person. www.margatewintergardens.co.uk Shelly Rose at Lombard Street Gallery // 3-25 Oct Things That Are There, Pie Factory, Margate // 17-27 Oct Things That Are There brings together the work of five artists (Tom Banks, Sam Hodge, Mark Sowden, Matthew Swift, Ana Vicente) who find inspiration from observations of the environments in which they live. Their concern is with details and views that normally go unnoticed. There is an almost anthropological element to the findings each artist makes. In this sense landscapes concern these artists not as verdant representations of grand vistas but as sites of investigation that allow particular encounters to occur. www.piefactorymargate.co.uk This exhibition of work by Shelley Rose emerges from the observation of the quality and character of light and light phenomena, translated into the medium of printed colour. The work on show draws on the artist's expertise in printing and photography and will feature original silk screen prints, digital plans and montage work for future renderings, alongside fine art photographic pieces. www.lombardstreetgallery.co.uk Ivor Abrahams-A Reflection - Prints and Sculptures, UpDown Gallery, Ramsgate // 23 Oct – 29 Nov A Royal Academician since 1989 Ivor Abrahams found inspiration in the imagery of domestic gardens, dancers and owls. This is a substantial exhibition of works from his private collection, exploring these themes. Major shows are planned in London later on in 2015. Open Thursday – Sunday 11am – 5pm. www.updowngallery.co.uk Looping the Loop Festival // 9-18 Oct A festival of world class performance – live, local and yours for the taking in venues across Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. www.loopingtheloopfestival.org.uk Half Term Halloween, PowellCotton Museum, Quex Park, Birchington // 26-30 Oct Emily Stone – Copper Creatures at Lovelys Gallery, Cliftonville This Halloween at the Powell-Cotton Museum families will travel to the haunt of the White Lady, but before their journeys begin they will create and decorate a lantern to light their way in dark places. With willow and paper lanterns in hand they will trek in the footsteps of explorer Major Percy PowellCotton to the dreaded tower, hidden amongst the trees, in the northern woodland of the park. At this ill feted location they will hear the spine tingling tale of an ancient tomb, a terrible curse and discover the identity of the White Lady. 3.30pm to 5pm. £8 Adults, £6 children (members £5 adults, £3 children) maximum of 20 children per tour. Please ring the museum and book in advance 01843 842168. www.quexpark.co.uk 10-24 Oct Emily Stone creates her Copper Creatures from her workshop near Dover in Kent and has exhibited widely around Britain since 2007. She derives enormous satisfaction from seeing people drawn to touch, stroke, or even be prickled by her creatures and copper gives each piece an extra sense of character and spirit. www.lovelysgallery.co.uk Halloween Make and Paint Activity Days, Hornby Visitor Centre, Margate // 26-31 Oct Enjoy one of the Airfix Make and Paint Activity Days, which are included in the admission price to the Visitor Centre.
