Additionally, the battery can also be replenished
whilst on the move, but bear in mind that this
impacts fuel efficiency as it uses the engine to
drive the car and recharge at the same time.
The GTE has five drive modes: e-mode, battery
save, hybrid auto, battery charge and GTE. All
fairly straightforward and self-explanatory, but
worth mentioning that hybrid auto provides the
best balance between performance and efficiency,
whereas GTE gives you access to all the driving
fun and performance that this magnificent car
can provide. And there is rather a lot of that too!
The GTE manages to be smooth and quiet in the
urban environment, with an entirely flawless
transition from flat battery to petrol engine. Parking
and driving in busy cities is effortless, thanks to
its superb handling, and it still manages to be
enjoyable out of town as well!

Saving the planet is all well and good, but what
would be the point if it was dull and lifeless?
There is a rather brilliant quote in the film Wall-E
that says: “I don't want to survive, I want to live!”
– a philosophy I can align with, and which the
Golf GTE definitely adheres to. It is in my opinion
one of the finest plug-in hybrids on the market
right now, and it is great to know that the future
is not only bright, but that it might be quite fun
too!
