Wellesley House School
A leading role in the Waterloo Commemorations
witnessed the event on the beach,
along with thousands of local
residents and visitors.
On Sunday 21st June, the Waterloo
Parade in London involved the
largest number of European bands
ever assembled in one place.
Wellesley pupils, all wearing
'Wellington' boots, gathered on
Horse Guards Parade in two
sections: the leading group carried
two of the three splendid heads
made by Miss Beaumont (Head of
Art at Wellesley) and her team of
students, together with various
models of horses.
As founder of the national schools campaign ‘Hungry for History’, Wellesley
House played an exciting role in the Waterloo Commemorations this June.
In June 1815, the first news of Wellington’s victory was brought to England
via Broadstairs (home of Wellesley House) and so to commemorate the
event on Saturday 20th June, two actors rowed ashore to land in Viking
Bay in full Regency military uniform. All the Wellesley pupils and staff
