welcome
July is here; it's hotting up (well, kinda!), and the good ol' British summer
as we know it is in full swing! Set to be a scorcher – at least in the events
department – Kent is bursting with more al fresco happenings (p33) and
inspiring days out (p87) than your diary will allow.
Gemma 1 – Ben Nevis 0
For those of you who have
been following me in the lead
up to my Ben Nevis trek in
aid of Demelza's 101
challenge, I would just like to
declare that 'Cathy and I DID
IT'!
The trick, therefore, is to pick well. At the top of our hit list is annual
favourite: the spectacular Leeds Castle Classical Concert. Celebrating its
37th year come 11th July, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The
Definitive Rat Pack are just two of the acts signed up to entertain the
crowds. And last month, I was lucky enough to catch up with the latter
for, well...a natter. Read insideKENT's exclusive interview with the
charming trio over on page 26.
After months of training and
repeating 'it's just a large
hill', we took on the
mountain with 63 fellow
trekkers and won. Having
raised £1,500 of the current
£72,000 total; and having
shared the most rewarding experience, I couldn't be prouder.
If you're attending and planning a feast of sorts, fill your hamper with
delights from our perfect picnic recipes (p55) and Kentish summer tipples
feature (p45); as per, I'll be the one swaying to "Land of Hope and Glory"
with a flag, quiche and Prosecco in hand.
Taking a more exotic trip in the upcoming break? Don't miss our beach
style guide starting on page 63, travel bag picks (p133) and – safety first –
essential holiday first aid kit (p81). I'll certainly be taking note as to not
impair my fun, summer plans!
And the most shocking element: I would do it again. You heard it here
first! Read about the challenge in full in insideKENT's August edition.
