GETAWAYS The UK's Best Beaches No matter where you are in the UK, you are never far from a beach, relatively speaking. It may be a drive or train ride away, but, either properly planned or as spontaneous as it gets, a day at the seaside is a treat that can’t be rivalled. Kids and adults love it equally, and whether it’s your first foray onto the UK’s golden stretches of sand or wild pebbles or you’ve been doing it your entire life, that tang of sea air never loses its appeal. As lovely as a foreign holiday might be, and as stunning as the beaches undoubtedly are in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, it’s just not the same as the good old UK. Where are the piers? The funfairs? The sticks of rock? You can find them here. BY LISAMARIE LAMB Blackpool Beach Botany Bay Porthcurno Beach Brighton Beach and Pier Blackpool Sands // Devon Studland Beach // Dorset Brighton Beach // West Sussex This award-winning beach is privately managed, making it perfect for families to enjoy. There are sand pits and rafts to play with, and it is surrounded by stunning pine trees. At Studland, there are four miles of sand to enjoy, as well as plenty of coastal paths (including the 630-mile-long South West Coastal Path), so you can take in the views from either the beach or the healthland nearby. If you prefer your beaches big and bold, Brighton would suit you down to the sand – or rather, pebbles. There is plenty to do here, and many places to enjoy the view whilst having a delicious lunch. If a trip to the beach means surfing to you, then this is the place to go. Not only is Croyde gorgeous, but it is regularly named as Devon’s top spot for catching the waves. Not into surfing? It’s great for sunbathing, swimming, and playing too. Botany
