ELLENORLIONS HOSPICES
MARKS 30 YEARS WITH A
CELEBRATORY PRESS DINNER
insideKENT and other Kent media helped to celebrate 30 years of specialist
hospice care at an annual press dinner hosted by EllenorLions Hospices.
On Thursday 5th March, the charity and its media friends wined and
dined together, courtesy of Brandshatch Place Hotel & Spa in Fawkham.
EllenorLions Hospices is one of very few hospices in the UK, and the
only charity in Kent that provides hospice care for people of all ages and
their families – whether a young baby or an elderly person at the end of
their long life.
Press guests were thanked for their support and heard about exciting
plans for 2015, including the charity’s first ever 5k Glow Night Run on 27th
March, before enjoying a three-course meal.
Rachel Holweger, director of fundraising at EllenorLions Hospices,
said: “It was a pleasure to thank our press friends in person for all their
support, and we are exceptionally grateful to Brandshatch Place Hotel &
Spa for its generosity and warm hospitality. For 30 years, EllenorLions
Hospices has provided the best care and support to families facing terminal
illness, thanks to the generosity of our local community. We hope they will
continue to support us so that we can provide more care for more people
in their place of choice in years to come.”

The NSPCC is once again giving people in Kent the rare chance to visit the
beautiful and historic setting of Saltwood Castle for its 13th annual open
garden and plant fair on Saturday 2nd May.
Steeped in history, Saltwood Castle, near Hythe, was the home of
writer and historian, the late Rt. Hon. Alan Clark MP. The castle grounds
are not usually open to the public, but the event is held with the kind
permission of Mrs Jane Clark.
Binita Shah, NSPCC community fundraising manager, explained: “We
are grateful to Mrs Jane Clark for enabling us to host our plant fair at
Saltwood Castle once again this year. It’s always a successful event, due
to the stunning surroundings and the variety of stalls – last year we raised
a staggering £12,000.
“It’s so much more than a plant fair – it’s a wonderful day out. You
can visit more than 20 stallholders, enjoy a coffee, and stay for lunch and
tea too.
“All funds raised by the event will help us to support vulnerable children
and young people through our services such as ChildLine, the free and
confidential helpline for children and young people in danger or distress..."
The event takes place on Saturday 2nd May, 10am-4pm, at Saltwood
Castle, Hythe, CT21 4QU. Entrance is £6pp on the door and under 16s get
in free. Parking is free, but limited. Please note, there are no disabled facilities.
FUNDRAISING MADE EASY AT LONDON BEACH HOTEL IN TENTERDEN
The Mayor of Ashford
A grand total of £413,000
has been donated to charities
and clubs in the last four
years by the London Beach
Charity Scheme, a
programme that represents
a wonderful opportunity for
charities to raise muchneeded money. It seems too
good to be true; you can
raise money for charity while
having fun at dinner dances,
golf competitions, Sunday
carvery lunches, afternoon
teas, high teas and more.
The cost of the food at all
events is donated back to the named charity.
All of this is made possible through the association between London
Beach Hotel and the Savannah Charitable Trust, and it is now possible for
the hotel to offer numerous novel and potentially lucrative fundraising
opportunities to registered charities and local clubs.
