INTERIORS spring and summer interior trends cont. bedroom Time to rest your weary head, but no matter how tired you are, you want your bedroom to be chic and trendy. Mid-Century Modern – Going back in time to the 1950s and 1960s and giving it a modern twist is how the most up-to-the-minute bedrooms will look this year. Bold colours and geometric shapes combine with soft furnishings to give this room a timeless and hip look. Rustic – If 60’s chic isn’t your cup of tea, then look to the rustic style to give you ideas. Big wooden headboards, perhaps with the addition of iron detailing, wooden floorboards, and antique furniture can achieve the look you want without too much upheaval. Expanding the Space – Whether it’s a potted plant or a living wall, if you can possibly bring your garden into your home you should do it. Do you have a great view of the garden, or a lush green space? Make the most of it by using your whole window, with as little material for curtains or blinds as you can get away with. If you have an artistic streak, or can find stencils to help you, you can continue the look of the trees, plants, and flowers outside by painting the area around your window to match. living room The room in which to relax and socialise, the living room plays a key role in the home and should be celebrated in all its glory. Natural Themes – There are a number of ways you can create a naturally themed living room – organically decorated wallpaper is just one. Striking, a little daring, but beautiful too, wallpaper covered in images of leaves, bamboo shoots, trees, flowers, or any other kind of naturally occurring pattern will life the room, and mirror what is happening outside, now that the winter is behind us. The theme can extend to fabrics for use in curtains or cushions, and you can even add driftwood decoration or shell sculptures to the room to finish it off perfectly. Green Wall – If you're feeling particularly imaginative, and you do have the room, what about a green wall? Following on from the natural themes that are so hot in 2015, you could have a living wall right in your living room. This impactful, environmentally friendly design definitely has a calming effect, and is all part of the idea of bringing the outside in, and making the interior and exterior of your home combine to create one whole. Reclaimed and Recycled – Using recycled or upcycled materials in your living room is a great way to enjoy old furniture and give it a new lease of life. Recovering old sofas and chairs will make them seem brand new, and a lick of paint on a coffee table or sideboard will change everyone’ perspective s of it, you, and the room it belongs in. If you really want to expand the theme, you can create – or purchase – furniture made from reclaimed materials. You might even be able to find some bargains by visiting a reclamation yard. 126
