mother’s day treats
Mother’s Day, or Mothering Sunday, began in North America in 1908 – although it wasn’t officially
recognised as a celebration until 1910. It was Anna Jarvis, an intelligent and fascinating college-educated
businesswoman and activist who decided that her own mother, whom she had loved dearly, and whom
was responsible for encouraging Jarvis to attend college, should have some kind of memorial (she had
died three years previously). Anna Jarvis declared that mothers should be honoured, since they are
"the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world". BY LISAMARIE LAMB
The idea caught on quickly, and within two years of Anna Jarvis’
highly publicised memorial to Ann Jarvis, mothers were enjoying
gifts and a rare day off to be pampered and looked after by
their children, rather than the other way around.

Now, over one 100 years later, Mother’s Day (spelt as a singular
possessive, rather than a plural in keeping with Jarvis’ wishes)
is still celebrated, and our mothers are still treated to something
just that little bit special. Kent is a county full of beautiful places
to take the most important woman in our lives, as the list below
will show you.
In 2015, Mother’s Day will be celebrated on 15th March.
