Mystery, Magic and
Midnight Feasts is
a playful, interactive
and immersive
exhibition for all
ages to enjoy.
Visitors are invited
to throw
themselves into the
world of the
Famous Five and
Secret Seven,
Malory Towers,
Magic Faraway Tree and Noddy’s Toyland. Throughout the exhibition, The
Beaney will be holding family events such as Enid Blyton drop-in art activities
and Jumping Beaneys' creative workshops for the under 5s.

Quarterhouse and other venues around Folkestone will host a
series of events this March to both celebrate the incredible
achievements of women, and look at the most potent topics for
women today. It’s a festival about women, for everyone.
The festival will open with
comedian Josie Long
(Tuesday 3rd March, 8pm,
Quarterhouse, £10), and will
also include lunchtime talks
covering topics such as how
women have been affected
by austerity; singing; Zumba;
knitting; speed mentoring
and activism workshops;
performances; walks; free
exhibitions; and panel

discussions on topics such
as parenting, creativity,
feminism and porn. The festival will close on Saturday 7th March
with a music concert by Wild Women, Carol Grimes, and Maiuko
with guest musicians and singers.

new friends. Elderly residents are
invited to a tea party organised by
the Herne Bay, Whitstable and
Canterbury group of Contact the
Elderly, a national charity dedicated to tackling social isolation amongst
older people.

To Kill A Mocking Bird

One of the greatest novels of

on stage in this acclaimed
production. Set in the Deep
South, Harper Lee’s Pulitzer
Prize-winning novel sees racial
injustice envelop a small-town
community. This utterly
enchanting and enthralling
production from London’s
award-winning Regent’s Park
Theatre captures the warmth
and poignancy of this bestloved classic with genuine
heart and emotional depth.

Other highlights will include BAFTA award-winning actress, Jessica
Hynes, working with a group of local young women on their
improvisation skills; poetry on the windows of the shops at The
Old High Street written by Folkestone Academy Year 9, East Kent
College students and participants in the International Day for the
elimination of Violence Against Women event. A screening of
Wadjda – the BAFTA winner for Best Foreign Film, which tells the
story of a 10-year-old girl living in Saudi Arabia who dreams of
owning her own bike – will also take place on Thursday 5th March,
7.30pm, at Quarterhouse.
Women of the World Festival is a Southbank Centre project
supported by Bloomberg and funded by the Creative Foundation
and Quarterhouse, The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, Arts
Council England, Kent County Council, Shepway District Council
and Folkestone Town Council. Co-curated by Leah Thorn and
Folkestone Fringe.
