EVENTS Winter Pruning Courses // 18 Nov Children's Nearly New Sale // 22 Nov Your fruit trees have cropped well this year, but how can you give them a helping hand to do the same at the next harvest? Winter pruning is the answer and experts at East Malling Research are delivering a series of short courses to help the keen novice, as well as the accomplished amateur gardener, get it right. The half-day and full-day courses will advise on winter pruning of apple, pear, plum and cherry trees and are to be held at the Grade-1 listed Bradbourne House, and include the Hatton Fruit Garden on the estate near East Malling. The half-day winter pruning course for people with little or no experience, or who are simply totally confused about pruning fruit trees, costs £45. Aimed at the more experienced gardener, the fullday course costs £75, with a light lunch included. The next beginner half-day course will be held on 18th November. More details can be found at www.emr.ac.uk/short-courses/amateurcourses.
