AT SPIRE TUNBRIDGE WELLS HOSPITAL, DISCUSSES
Momentum Orthopaedics
BASED IN KENT, MOMENTUM ORTHOPAEDICS OFFERS EXPERT
DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION FOR A WIDE RANGE OF
MUSCULOSKELETAL CONDITIONS. GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR
EACH OF ITS PATIENTS, IT DELIVERS THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF PRIVATE
HEALTHCARE AND CLINICAL STANDARDS.
How long has Momentum
Orthopaedics been in practice?
Momentum Orthopaedics, part of
Spire Healthcare, was launched in
September 2014.
In which service(s) does
Momentum Orthopaedics
specialise?
We specialise in orthopaedics. We
offer diagnostics, treatment and
surgery on the following areas:
shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle.
Who makes up the team?
The Momentum Orthopaedics team
is made up of six orthopaedic
surgeons, who collectively have
over 60 years’ experience. They are
Mr Michael Fordyce, Mr Paul
Skinner, Mr Nicholas Bowman, Mr
David Rose, Mr Richard Benson,
and Mr Justin Forder. The surgeons
are also supported by a team of
specialist physiotherapists, as not
all injuries require surgery.
What factors do potential
patients need to consider should
they be looking to book an
appointment with one of your
consultants?
Momentum Orthopaedics is open
to everyone, whether they have
private medical insurance or have
the ability to self-fund. If a patient
does have insurance, it is always a
good idea to check with their
provider first to ensure their level of
cover. If a patient has already
consulted their GP in the past and
has had scans or treatment, then
a referral from the GP is ideal to
provide their consultant with all of
the relevant history. However, if this
is not possible, then patients are
still more than welcome to book.
What do you think ensures Momentum Orthopaedics stands out from
other similar clinics?
Momentum Orthopaedics can offer each patient access to the Spire
Tunbridge Wells Hospital’s new Imaging Centre. This is located within the
hospital grounds and offers regular appointments either on the same or
next day. This is very unique to the area, being one of the only hospitals
to offer static, on-site imaging. This will benefit our patients, as a rapid
access to diagnostics ensures a fast diagnosis.
If the patient decides to go ahead
with the treatment, what is the
process that follows?
You also maintain a dedicated Imaging Centre. Tell us a bit about
that.
Once the patient has had their initial
consultation, their consultant or
physiotherapist will inform them of
the appropriate treatment or
surgery, which will then be
confirmed via their secretary. If the
treatment is in outpatients, then this
will likely be booked into the next
clinic. If the patient requires surgery,
then the consultant will inform the
secretary, who will then make
contact with the patient to arrange
the surgery at the most convenient
time.
The Spire Tunbridge Wells Imaging Centre boasts new, state of the art MRI
and CT scanners. Our MRI scanner has a wider bore of an additional 20cm
in width, which helps to reduce anxiety with patients who may suffer from
claustrophobia and so on. It also offers 100% feet-first imaging. The CT
scanner has high-resolution imaging with a reduced radiation dose. The
Imaging Centre can also provide ultrasound and X-ray facilities, and all
procedures are performed by specialist radiologists and radiographers.
What does Momentum Orthopaedics have in store for 2015?
We are hoping to expand our rehabilitation services by offering our patients
an additional off-site clinic located in Tunbridge Wells. This will provide
patients with specialist facilities to ensure the best possible treatment
following injury or surgery, and promote a quick recovery.
How do you ensure that your
patients' experience is as stressfree as possible?
Momentum Orthopaedics has a
dedicated phone line available from
8am-6pm Monday to Friday. The
customer services team can help
patients with any line of enquiry
from initial questions to booking
appointments. It is also there for
any patient throughout their journey,
and is happy to help at all times.
Our focus is to deliver a seamless
service tailored to each patient's
individual needs.
