and drink
producers, retailers, chefs and cookery schools. Stallholders exhibiting
include Simply Mexican Food Company, Crabbieshack, Margate Smoke
House, Jing Jing and many more. With food and drink theatre demonstrations,
children’s cookery workshops and talks from a variety of food and drinks
experts, as well as a wide choice of hot and cold food available, there is
something to suit everyone’s taste. A valid entrance ticket to Leeds Castle
is required.
10.30am-6pm, with last admission 4.30pm. Price: Day ticket (including

Heritage Open Days

This September, Heritage
Open Days celebrates
England’s fantastic
architecture and culture by
offering free access to places
that are usually closed to the
public or normally charge for
admission. Every year,
buildings of every age, style
and function throw open their
doors to offer visitors a once-a-year chance to discover architectural
treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring
local history and culture to life. A highlight for us in Kent is Aylesford Pottery,
which will be making medieval wine cups and jugs for the public over the
weekend.

Ride and Stride
// 13 Sep
Ride and Stride takes place throughout
England and Wales on the second
Saturday of September each year. It
is organised by your local county
churches trust – ours being The
Friends of Kent Churches. The aim is
to raise funds for your local church
and to help other churches in Kent.
Those taking part are sponsored to
go from church to church by walking,
riding a bike, or even a horse! Last
year, 750 churches opened their doors
and in the last 10 years, Friends of
Kent Churches has given over £1,330,000 to Kent's churches. Want to do

Country Life at the Castle // 12-14 Sep
Celebrate the very best of rural living at Hever Castle’s Country Life at the
Castle event. Enjoy a slower pace of life as you unwind in the glorious
grounds of the romantic castle, while enjoying the displays and demonstrations
taking place. A variety of talented craftspeople including a trug maker,
basket weaver, wood
carver and lace maker
will set up stall on Half
Moon Pond to show off
their skills. Guests can
also sample food and
drink from local
producers, find out
about keeping hens and
bees from the experts,
and gain advice from
local art and
photography clubs. Members of The Quilters’ Guild from the South East
will also showcase their talents with an impressive display of patchwork
quilts and wall hangings. Demonstrations include a children’s Sit and Sew
workshop and Have a go – Learn to Sew workshop for adult beginners.

Showcasing the very best in dance music, Maidstone's Social festival will
welcome the likes of Route 94, Gorgon City and Carl Cox, through its gates
later this year. Relatively
young, the festival is only
in its second year, but that
certainly didn't stop it
rocking Mote Park in
September 2013. In
addition to its fabulous lineup and top artists gracing
the decks, this boutique
festival champions the
notion local is best, by
selling Kentish produce
throughout the site, and incorporating local businesses, universities in the
design and planning of the event.
