GCSE and A-level exam results will be released in
August and the inevitable annual dissection by the
media of results, grade inflation and university
admissions will begin. It is a tense time of year for
students and parents alike. Many year 13 students
will spend 14th August celebrating their grades and
looking forward to the next stage in their academic
career. Others will have to contend with the UCAS
clearing system or a fresh application next year.
Orchestra ONE Project 8 will be held at New Line Learning Academy in
Maidstone from Tuesday 5th August, culminating in a concert on Friday
8th August.
However, younger students moving into years 12 and 13 in September are
often ignored in the frenzy surrounding A2 results. Year 13 students should
already be working towards the application deadlines of 15th October 2014
for Oxford, Cambridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary science or 15th
January 2015 for most other courses. These dates will come around all too
quickly and many applications end up being rushed and poorly prepared.
This disadvantages bright students from getting onto their first choice of
course.
Joe Browne,
Orchestra ONE
The four-day course will be led by Joe
Browne, who has been involved with
Orchestra ONE since its creation in
September 2011. Joe is a regular fixture in
the London jazz scene, playing with
groundbreaking new ensembles such as Last
Summer’s Tea Lights and the Melange
Collective, as well as established favourites
