SAINSBURY’S KENT SCHOOL GAMES CREATES A NEW GENERATION OF
YOUNG SPORTING CHAMPIONS
The Kent School Games, organised by KCC's
Sport and Physical Activity Service and supported
by Sainsbury’s, reached the spectacular finishing
line with the grand final and showcase held on
Wednesday 25th June at the University of Kent
and Canterbury High School, Canterbury.
sport to motivate and inspire. She explains: “My
sporting success at school, at county and national
level did so much for me; it taught me about
leadership, teamwork, discipline and respect. I
still apply many of the life lessons that I learnt to
my life in Parliament today. I hope you all do
really well, but we can’t all be winners, so all I
would ask is that you push yourself to be the
very best you can be.”
During the epic seven-hour event, over 1,200
finalists ran, jumped, putted and raced their way
to medal victory, during 11 separate events. The
opening ceremony saw the Minister for Sport,
Tourism and Equalities, Helen Grant MP
(Maidstone and The Weald), give her full backing
and enthusiastic support to the countywide
initiative that this year has seen 617 out of 700
schools take part and 35,000 competitors
participate in the 2014 games.
During the fierce competitive sports, the three
winning performances across each event and
age group were rewarded with gold, silver and
bronze medals – with 360 medals presented in
total during the finals. Now, the gold medal
winners are set to travel to the national
Sainsbury’s School Games finals.
Once a junior judo champion herself, Minister,
Helen Grant, said she understood the value of
School Games the success that they have grown
in to, especially Sainsbury’s and our homegrown
Sports Minister for flying the flag for national
sport, as well as here in the county. Eight years
ago, we set out to create an event that would
reverse the worrying decline in sport in primary
and secondary schools in Kent. Some 35,000
competitors and over 600 schools are now
enjoying the pleasures and rewards of taking
part in competitive sport through Kent School
Games.”
Paul Carter, KCC Leader, added: “I would like
to thank all of those involved in making the Kent

PETER JAMES’ DEAD SIMPLE TO RECEIVE
WORLD PREMIERE IN DARTFORD
Following the critically acclaimed stage production
of Peter James’ The Perfect Murder at The
Orchard Theatre, Dartford, earlier this year, the
best-selling work of the number one novelist will
return to the same stage from 14th-17th January
2015 next year to premiere the adaptation of his
most famous and popular book to date, Dead
Simple.
Peter James took part in a suitably claustr phobic
o
photo opportunity at an East London funeral
directors this July, when much like the protagonist
Michael Harrison, he found himself inside a coffin.
When asked how he felt about Dead Simple
being premiered at The Orchard Theatre, he
stated: “I’m hugely looking forward to attending.
Dead Simple, which is quite a change of
atmosphere to The Perfect Murder, is a play that
is going to work extremely well at The Orchard.
The Perfect Murder is very much a black comedy
,
whereas this is quite a dark thriller and I think it
is going to have some very scary moments in it.
The Orchard Theatre is just a beautiful venue
for it.”
