welcome
It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer! Most of us have crawled out from
under our rocks to bask in the Kent sunshine, and a few of us might have
even been brave (or crazy) enough to break out the bikinis and swim
shorts. Me? I have a major jumper attachment issue - it’s hard for me to
get into a summer frame of mind when it comes to attire. Maybe I’m
genuinely cold, or maybe I just like jumpers. Whatever the reason, one of
these days I’m going to have to pack away my winter gear and dig out
the short sleeves and maxi dresses!
Colour (p112). Have a look at our handy Kent art gallery map on page 110
to see what’s near you.
What are your plans for early summer in Kent? We’d love to know! Join in
the conversation on Twitter @insideKENT, or Facebook at /insideKENT,
and keep up to date with all the latest and greatest. You can also get in
touch at [email protected] with comments or ideas.
On a completely different note, a little birdie told me that it’s commonplace
to have a photo of me next to my
welcome letter, but as you may
have noticed from our past
issues, I’m not a big fan of posed
editor shots. So, I thought rather
than bore you with a professional
Photoshopped picture of me each
issue, I’ll entertain you with a Kent
selfie instead. Can you guess
where I am? If you have
superhero vision, you can see
#KentSelfie
Ashford Designer Outlet in the
background. I’d love to see your
own #KentSelfie - if you have any, please share with us on Twitter!
If you’re like me and need some warm weather inspiration, this issue of iK
is perfect to get you into a summery mood. Check out some early
summer fashion on page 72, or read about some gorgeous gardens to
visit in Kent on page 108. How about a spot of glamping this season?
Have a look at some of our favourite products on page 136.
Speaking of glamping, who’s planning on going to any of Kent’s festivals
this summer? There are so many, there’s without a doubt a festival for
everyone. Have a look at a selection of Kent’s top festivals on page 52,
and enter to win tickets to Lounge on the Farm, the Hop Farm Festival or
the Leeds Castle Open Air Classical Concert on page 55.
This issue of insideKENT - our annual Arts Issue - is one of my favourites
of the year, dedicated to all things creative in Kent. It’s filled to the brim
with arts galore - from galleries to Kent artists, to our cover story all about
the incredible Turner Contemporary and its new exhibition: Mondrian and
