ARTS ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE An Eye for Detail Gallery Seventeen – Beckenham’s Art Centre Art Gallery, Teaching Studio & Fine Art Framers GALLERY SEVENTEEN IS CURRENTLY EXHIBITING EXCITING NEW WORK BY LOCAL ARTISTS: JOHN GRIGSBY, HAZEL ADAMS AND LOUISE DAVIES. 'Fading Light Etching' By Louise Davies With a keen eye for detail, John Grigsby is a talented and prolific Printmaker, who lives and works in Beckenham, Kent. Grigsby’s etchings respond to the Great British countryside, exploring the patchwork of textures and patterns that form the vast and varied landscape. They are bold and beautiful from a distance and, on closer inspection, delicate and detailed. John Grigsby studied painting at Stoke-on-Trent College of Art, and Teacher Training at Leicester College of Art in the early 1960s. He was the Senior Lecturer in Visual Studies at Croydon College of Art, 1988-1996. 'Short Haired Bumble Bee' By Hazel Adams Exhibiting alongside John Grigsby, Louise Davies’ etchings contrast the earthy tones of John Grigsby’s work with vivid, vibrant colour. Louise Davies is a professional Painter and Printmaker. She is a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and lives and works in Blackheath. Louise graduated with a Fine Art Degree from St Martins and then completed an M.A. in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Art. Davies’ boldness with colour produces stunning results; colours that normally fight work harmoniously together. The bold colours are contrasted with the light, delicate, textured details, producing beautiful landscapes with depth and atmosphere. From expansive vistas to the exquisite veins on a Bumble Bee’s wing, Hazel Adams’ wildlife illustrations explore the micro-world of insects with painstaking attention to detail, producing beautiful, original watercolours, several of which are on show. Based in West Wickham, Kent, her work has been used in numerous publications including BBC Wildlife Magazine and Oxford University Press. The gallery is currently exhibiting a wide range of framed and unframed work by each artist, but this is just a small selection of the eclectic range of art available at Gallery Seventeen.
