ARTS IT’S ALL ABOUT Kent is well known as the Garden of England, so with so much beauty surrounding us, it’s no wonder it also has a thriving art community. The stunning natural surroundings are obviously a key element when it comes to influencing artists in the county. Kent combines cutting-edge art galleries, with creative studios, even whole areas of some of Kent’s towns dedicate themselves to the arts – Folkestone, Canterbury, Margate and Tunbridge Wells being some of the most renowned for their links with the art world. Kent uses its favourable summer months to focus on celebrating its art and the local artists in the county. This is done through exhibitions, shows and festivals from May to September and beyond, enticing both locals and tourists from around the world. All types of art are actively encouraged throughout Kent, not just in its towns but in its schools, colleges and universities. From painting, through to sculpture, graphic design to illustration, even literary art, music and the performing arts can be found in abundance from the eastern coast to the boroughs of London. The Garden of England also provides many opportunities for budding artists and people with various creative talents to explore their creativity and learn something new in the thousands of courses, weekend breaks and workshops run throughout the county.
