And what better way to kick off proceedings, than to host a glittering launch party on 7th May? With more than 100 people in attendance, the successful evening event gave guests a chance to meet Chris and James Tanner, the renowned chefs behind the pub, as well as their supporting cast of head chef, Sam Spratt, and general manager, Melvyn Strange. Also in attendance were owners Sir Keith and Lady Maureen Mills. Melvyn Strange, who boasts 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, said: “There have been many months of hard work involved in the refurbishment and launch, but it has all been worth it! We have already received a huge amount of positive feedback on the new look, and we were fully booked for our first night weeks ago.” The Curlew Restaurant, Bodiam, where he was part of the team that won its first Michelin star. Lady Mills pulled the pub’s first pint for competition winner Gary Thorne, before guests were welcomed and invited to explore the new restaurant, bars, outdoor terrace and landscaped garden. James Tanner added: “Chris and I are from Kent originally, so we are very excited to be bringing our successful formula of fresh, local produce at realistic prices to the county. The new look pub is offering real ales, alongside a selection of wines served by the glass and carafe. A transformed kitchen and restaurant will showcase the best of local Kentish produce. The restaurant boasts an open plan kitchen, led by head chef and protégé of the Tanner Brothers, Sam Spratt. Having trained at Thanet College, before joining the team at Tanners, Sam returned to Kent after having worked in Devon, and at ”We have every confidence in the team we have put in place, and have received a great deal of support from local suppliers and customers – which we hope is an indication of a long and successful future in Bidborough.” The Kentish Hare opened to the public on Saturday 10th May.
