EDUCATION
Z&B VINTNERS AND TOWERS SCHOOL
SCHOLARSHIP PARTNERSHIP
Owners of The Vinorium, an innovative wine merchant and wine
experience in Mersham-Le-Hatch, near Ashford, has created a rewarding
scholarship programme for pupils of The Towers School, Ashford.
Stuart McCloskey, director and owner of The
Vinorium's parent company, Z&B Vintners,
approached The Towers School, where he himself
was a pupil many years before successfully
launching the business in 2005.
Each candidate has been through a rigorous
process, with The Vinorium team helping coach
them through interviews and applications. The
final candidates are now facing their ultimate
challenge – to create a viable business using just
a £1,000 budget. There will be three other pupils
in each team, with support from The Vinorium
team also.
Stuart McCloskey, director of both Z&B
Vintners and The Vinorium, said: “A lot of people
today can’t afford university, and I feel that it is
the responsibility of companies to do their bit
too.
“We’re looking for someone with a real
spark and the drive to help us push forward our
vision. This spark is not about passing exams,
but about understanding the realities of the
business world, being able to make good
decisions, and being aware of the risks associated
with their actions.
“This is a real-world challenge, with real
money and real products. It’s a huge responsibility
for the pupils, but also a huge opportunity, and
we are all looking forward to the upcoming
challenges.”
The scholarship offered by Z&B Vintners
will give the successful candidate a full-time
commercial role within the fast-paced world of
wine. The individual will learn about retail and
customer service through The Vinorium and about
wine investment through Z&B Vintners, Kent's
diverse fine wine company.
The final challenge began with a planning,
workshop session, with all of the pupils on location
at The Vinorium on 2nd April 2014.
