EDUCATION IN ASSOCIATION WITH Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School © Luc Jones Photography Chatham House and Clarendon House Grammar Schools in Ramsgate formally became one school as of 1st September 2013 having been federated since 2009, drawing on the long history of academic excellence at both schools and utilising their traditional buildings whilst embracing a contemporary outlook; with key stage 3 retaining single sex teaching and key stage 4 a mixture of both single and mixed sex teaching. The school boasts the largest 6th form in Thanet drawing on both its own students and those from other local Grammar Schools and High Schools. GCSE results are exceptionally good with an overall pass rate of 97% 5 A* – C in 2013. Results in English and Maths bucked the national trend and were outstanding with 64% of students in English and 47% of students in Maths making better than expected progress (i.e. 4 levels or more from KS2 starting point). At A Level the school also bucked the national trend last year with results rising from 99.2% in 2012 to 99.8% in 2013; with A*/A grades on an upward trend. Over 90% of our sixth form (currently 530 students) move on to universities in the UK and abr ad, including o Oxbridge, and study an extraordinary range of courses. 51 However, the school prides itself on being more than just about the academic and offers a wide range of other opportunities to students. In sport we have modern pentathletes, sailors and swimmers as well as more traditional sports all competing at top level. The school has county cricket and rugby players as well as students competing at international level in the Biathlon and Hockey. The school also has a long standing reputation for producing high quality music including, most recently, an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall as finalists in the National Youth Festival. Our A level Design & Technology students have won the National Make It Award for the last two years and our talented artists have had work on display at the Turner Gallery in Margate and as part of the pr stigious e John Downton Awards. Our 6th form students have been perennial winners and finalists in the Young Consumer of the Year Competition and students of all ages enjoy our Greenpower car racing events.
