we would find what we wanted at St. Nicolas
Bay. It's also worth noting that all food is freshly
prepared and where possible, delectable local
produce is used.
Enjoy superb al fresco dining on the spacious
veranda of Labyrinthos restaurant, with
magnificent sunset views of Agios Nikolaos. Here,
my guest and I enjoyed a deluxe buffet that
spanned both local and international dishes, as
well as the chef's unique recommendation of the
night. An interactive open kitchen is also available,
as is an extensive selection of desserts.
Meanwhile, if you're after true Cretan dishes and
an authentic atmosphere, the picturesque Greek
Kafenion is the spot for you. With tables dotted
just a few steps from the beach, diners can enjoy
a glorious setting, as well as indulging in the fresh
seafood delights caught from the Mirabello Bay
below. While I opted for their signature Cretan
lamb with organic potatoes, olive oil and rosemary,
cooked in the traditional Cretan oven, my guest
chose sea bass, enjoyed with a garden-fresh
medley of vegetables.
Both dishes were delicious, packed with flavour
and perfectly seasoned. More so, they were
enjoyed in the presence of traditional live music,
making for an unforgettable evening.
However, the most exclusive of the evening
eateries is the hotel's Minotaure restaurant,
whereby guests can enjoy an intimate poolside
dining experience. On this occasion, we had
been invited to a drinks reception, prior to a
candlelit dinner under the stars.
Choosing from a selection of international and
innovative cuisine, we shared a sushi platter
before both settling on the crispy oven-baked
duck breast, coated with honey and served with
pancakes and fresh vegetables. Cooked perfectly,
this stylish main was elegant and its execution,
seamless. What's more, from the waiter to the
highly knowledgeable sommelier, the service was
outstanding; an unyielding first-class culinary
experience.
Looking for more of a daytime retreat? Enjoy
entrancing sea views over lunch in the Blue Bay
Beach Restaurant and Bar. Boasting an all-day
menu that includes sandwiches, salads and daily
specials, this venue is ideal for a lighter lunch
option. In addition, cocktails, drinks, fresh fruit
juices and ice creams are served all day around
the pool and on the beach.
Evenings at St. Nicolas Bay are well spent beside
the water's edge at the resort's stunning Bonaccia
Jetty Bar, or alternatively, at the Astra Bar Varanta
and Lounge. Whilst the Jetty presents a vibrant
cocktail bar with lively music, the Astra Bar basks
in soft piano music and overlooks the blinking
lights of Agios Nikolaos' old fishing port.
In search of a truly relaxing break, my guest and
I opted to spend our days lazing around on the
luxurious poolside loungers or on the beach's

sun-soaked terraces. However for the more active
holidaymaker, St. Nicolas Bay also offers a whole
host of fantastic activities direct from its water
sports centre. Whether it's water skiing, sailing,
windsurfing or scuba diving you fancy, it's sure
to be exhilarating.
Conversely, if you are in need of some
rejuvenation, the hotel's Poseidon Spa offers a
number of face and body treatments designed
to revitalise and relax. Performed by highly trained
Elemis and Cinq Mondes therapists, the tranquil
spa is renowned for its bespoke services and
modern state-of-the-art facilities.
With all of this and more, who could blame you
for staying put in the resort? However, if you do
want to get out for a breather, the lovely fishing
port of Agios Nikolaos is brimming with
fashionable shops, boutiques, cafés, bustling
bars and restaurants.
Looking for an idyllic location for
your big day? Why not choose St.
Nicolas Bay and benefit from the
intimate setting, private beachfront
chapel and beautiful surroundings
available. Understandably, weddings
have been a speciality of the resort
for many years!
