IF THERE IS ONE THING WE CAN ALL TAKE FROM GREAT BRITAIN, IT IS THE INDULGENT, WELL-LOVED FOOD TRADITIONS THAT WE KNOW ONLY TOO WELL. AND WHAT'S MORE, I HAVE FOUND A PERFECT VENUE TO KEEP THAT TRADITION ALIVE: THE KINGS HEAD. In addition to its fabulous food offerings, the Kings Head has four guest rooms overlooking the Wye Downs. Inside, retro meets modern, with wooden slacks, high ceilings and mismatched furnishings; a ?tting décor that constitutes a great place to stay, eat and drink! Shown to our table by the friendly waiter, the atmosphere was warm and very welcoming. For my starter I chose the tartare of Kentish beef and handmade cornbeef, wasabi mayo and pickled mushroom. My partner enjoyed smoked haddock Welsh rarebit, which was served with tomato salad and chive vinaigrette. Both starters were simply stunning; the beef was beautiful and combined with the cornbeef, took me back to my younger days! The Wasabi mayo got my taste buds tinkling, and gave the dish a beautiful sharp ?avour. The rarebit was a culinary delight; beautifully cooked with the ?avours just bursting out. After course number one, I opted for the classic roast lamb – a succulent dish that looked as
good as it tasted. Served with traditional, perfectly-seasoned roast potatoes and fresh, seasonal veg, and of course my favourite: the Yorkshire pudding!
