Pluckley
The small , quaint village of Pluckley may look like an innocent English slice of luscious countryside , but dip just below the surface and you will be confronted with the most terrifyingly haunted village in the whole of England . The presence of ghosts are so heavily felt in the village that the location has been featured on multiple supernatural television programs , including Most Haunted and Ghostly Legends . It is also a popular location for haunted walks , with visitors flocking from miles around in a desperate attempt to catch a glimpse of the otherworldly .
In St Nicholas ’ Church is the Dering Chapel where a ghostly bobbling light can often be seen in the very top window accompanied by a slow , ominous knocking , which emanates from the tombs below and turns the air to ice . A more wholesome , less terrifying ghostly encounter recorded over the years is the spectre of a friendly dog who , from time-totime , makes an appearance in the church for some much needed belly rubs to break up his centurieslong slumber . The figure of a Tudor monk , who reportedly died of a broken heart when his lover perished under mysterious circumstances , has been seen aimlessly wandering the fields and lanes of Greystones House , absent of his beloved sweetheart , desperately waiting to be reunited with her in another life . The aforementioned sweetheart has also been spotted making her way around the nearby house of Rose Court , where she met a painful ending by a supposedly self-inflicted poisoning . Considering she was the mistress to a wealthily and powerful man , while at the same time being involved with the local monk , leaves the circumstances surrounding her apparent suicide questionable at best . She is said to wander from room to room groaning and sighing , and has a tendency to move objects around the house . Her and her lover ’ s tragic ends rivals the heart-wrenching tale of Romeo and Juliet ; sweethearts so distraught at the loss of each other they were doomed for an eternity of hopelessness , neither of them knowing the other is within reach if only they would simply look up .
These are only a handful of the many spooky spectres that roam the village ; we haven ’ t even mentioned the infamous screaming woods where passersby frequently hear blood-curdling , bone-chilling screams coming from deep within the dense trees , and dark ominous shadows follow anyone who dare enter the forest alone . So if you ' re feeling particularly brave this October definitely plan a visit to the most haunted village in England , if you are a lover of all things spooky , you will not be disappointed by this seemingly inconspicuous little village .
