MEET THE CHEFS:
DOROTA “DEE” JACYNO
& JOANNE “JO” HARTMAN
DELIGHTFUL PIZZA
What led you to becoming chefs?
Cooking has always been one of our passions. We
have both worked in catering and enjoy spending a
lot of our time at home preparing dishes for friends
and family.
During the recent lockdown, we had even more time
on our hands to cook. As a result, we decided to
combine our culinary skills, our love for rustic, fresh,
honest Italian pizzas, and our at-home pizza ovens
to start our business from scratch!
Our first weekend was a great success, with over a
hundred pizzas delivered around the Faversham
and Whitstable areas. We have continued to receive
excellent feedback from our customers since that
weekend and are absolutely loving our journey with
Delightful Pizza so far.
Where did you train and where have you
worked before Delightful Pizza?
We both trained as chefs in the past through working
in and running local pubs. In terms of cuisine, we
have both had experience running gastro pubs in
the Kent area. Dee also runs a business that sells
luxury hand-crafted wicker willow products, and Jo
has a family construction firm, but food has always
been our one true passion.
Why Kent?
We have recently opened up a permanent shop in
Faversham, which has been really exciting. Jo is
Faversham born and bred, so it made sense to open
up our shop in this lovely Kentish town. Dee is from
Poland but has lived in Kent for many years. We
both absolutely love Kentish food – and WINE, of
course!
Tell us about the dishes and menu you have
created at Delightful Pizza?
At Delightful Pizza, our wood-fired pizzas are made
with passion and high-quality ingredients. We use
authentic Italian flour to make our dough, as well
as fresh, local produce for our toppings and
homemade sauces.
Our customers love that we keep everything local
and use the highest quality smoked meat and selection
of cheeses. We make everything ourselves where we
can – including our dough, semi-dried tomatoes and
Delightful tomato sauce.
We use a delicious ale from our new Faversham
neighbour, the micropub next door, to cook the
pork for our smoked paprika BBQ sauce with pulled
pork pizza.
It’s truly a match made in pizza heaven!
What is your signature/favourite dish?
Our signature dish is our meat feast pizza. For this,
we use smoked ham, pepperoni, cooked bacon, spicy
sausages, salami, and kabanos – an Italian pizza
with a delightful twist!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Well, we would both have to say PIZZA of course
– they’re so easy to make and can be decorated with
such beautiful toppings. Another guilty pleasure of
ours has to be garlic butter – we love being generous
with it on our pizzas as it makes them taste so
flavoursome.
