THE ZETLAND ARMS
The Zetland Arms is a quintessential British pub set to the backdrop of grassy
white cliffs, stony shores and frothing waves lazily crashing onto the rocks below.
Perched right on the shores of this stony beach, this Deal haven is perfect for
those looking for sumptuous seafood and the perfect pint. At the Zetland you
are spoilt for choice when it comes to where to enjoy your time. The option of
enjoying an ale out on the beach with the sea breeze in your hair while skipping
stones is a pretty tempting pull for most people, though if you prefer the allure
of a scrumptious pub lunch in a classic English beer garden you have that option
too. Four legged companions are welcomed with open arms, and the freedom
of having the beach literally at your fingertips makes it the perfect location for
dog-lovers. Inside the pub, the walls are wrapped with a comforting exposed
brick, and the Maritime inspired decor will make any salty seaman swoon. The
location isn’t the only thing that sets the Zetland apart from other pubs in the
area; this Kentish pub champions all things local. Their seafood is caught fresh
just off the Kent coast, and their beer is supplied by none other than Shepherd
Neame - the iconic Faversham-based brewery.
Being that the ocean is right on its doorstep, the menu is very seafood heavy with
fresh prawns and classic fish and chips serving as staples. If you aren’t a fan of
seafood there is an array of other classic pub options. Hearty, warming, simple
food that will leave you happy, well-fed, and hankering for one of their succulent
desserts. This is a bustling haven for hikers, locals, and holidaymakers alike, the
stunning views combined with classic British pub grub and locally brewed beer
is a winning combination in anyone's book.
THE DRAPERS ARMS
Nestled in the heart of historic Canterbury, down a winding
side-street filled to bursting with independent shops, lies the
eye-catching azure blue banner of the Drapers Arms. As you
step through the door you’ll be in awe of the huge windows
that soak the entire building in natural light. At its heart, this
is a modern British pub that meshes its modernity with the
classic nature of its location and building; a place where ordering
a cappuccino from the in-house barista while pouring over
paperwork is just as acceptable as indulging in a sweet, summery
cocktail over lunch. The highlight of the Drapers Arms,
however, can be found by making your way up the wooden
staircase and out onto it’s cosy, quirky and fairy light strewn
terrace - a prime place for people watching and watching the
sun set over the beautiful cobbled streets of Canterbury. As an
added bonus, this is the perfect place to enjoy one of the most
wonderful Sunday roasts available in the city. Enormous
Yorkshire puddings, crispy yet fluffy roasties, lashings of gravy
and a mouthwatering platter of seasonal vegetables, this classic
British dish is a meal you will not forget in a hurry. The roast
dinner is perfect paired with a bottle of full-bodied red wine
and shared with a loved one. This is the best destination for
a romantic, relaxing Sunday dinner enjoyed in the fresh air of
the balcony; sometimes, if you are lucky, you can even hear
the sweet hum of street performances in the background. If
the terrace is a bit busy for your liking, the Drapers also has
street-side seating, perfect for getting lost in the moment while
the bustling nature of Canterbury passes you by.
