WELCOME
Looking back, August, though largely
wonderful, is a strange old month. It seems
to play out in fast forward: the end of the
school summer term blending into an annual
family holiday, which then morphs into
typically rainy ‘Great British Summer’ picnics
and culminates in a busy bank holiday that
signals when it’s all over. In a flash. That’s
why I absolutely adore September. It’s always
sunny, the pace is that little bit slower, and
it heralds autumn – my favourite season,
perhaps because my birthday often falls on
its very first day.
September in Kent in glorious – if you fancy
doing something different this month, head
to p19 for 18 pages of fab events to keep the whole family
occupied; check out a wonderful Darenth Valley walk
on p52; and see what’s going on in Rochester in this
month’s Town Spotlight from p47.
with aplomb…paired of course with its best friend, tea.
Head to p57 and you’ll find our guide to the very best
places for tea and cake across the county, and if that
doesn’t give you enough food for thought, read on for
restaurant reviews galore and an interesting autumn
blackberry recipe.
Lastly, let’s not forget our popular bi-annual education
special. Each child is so different and choosing the right
school for them is one of the most important decisions
you’ll make. Turn to p113 for our whopping 40-page
guide to everything education in Kent where you’ll find
information on many of the county’s top schools
alongside news, views and advice from some of the
most eminent teaching professionals.
Please find and follow us on social media (insideKENT)
to let us know what you think of the mag. See you
in October!
Yet another reason why September features so highly
in my good books? The return of the BBC’s The Great
British Bake Off; we’re all obsessed with it here at
insideKENT and to celebrate that we’ve embraced cake
