WooDViLLe 50 TH
BiRTHDAy PARTy
Nearly 2 years ago we started planning the celebrations for the
Woodville’s 50 th Birthday. It was, after all, a significant milestone for
the venue which holds such an iconic place in the heart of Gravesend.
We have spoken to so many people who have had
some of their most memorable evenings here; There was
no shortage of those whose first theatre experience was
panto and many who had actually been in the panto –
one Gemma Arterton for a start! There were first dates
and first dances. There were the loyal followers of the
Lord Lees club who saw some of the most famous bands
ever play here in the 70’s, bands such as Status Quo,
Thin Lizzy, Genesis and 10cc to name but a few. renewal ceremony in June when regular visitors Ron and
Denise Venison celebrated their 40 years of marriage at
the Woodville having been nominated for the event by
their daughter Paula. We all seemed to have something
in our eyes that day – hay fever – of course.
Throughout this year we have been delighted to offer our
customers opportunities to celebrate with us; All those
who share our birthday year can claim a cinema gift
card allowing them free access to the Paul Greengrass
cinema for a whole year*. We have teamed up with the
Baby Box University and we are a distribution point for
any graduate to come and pick up their box, all those
who do so are entered into a competition for 50 babies
to win free tickets to cinema and theatre performances
until they are 18! We have given away hundreds of
Golden Tickets for selected shows where the lucky
winner can exchange their ticket for a free drink, show
merchandise or even one of our famous Woodville
sausage rolls – as endorsed by Shane Lynch no less!
We were delighted to have the most moving vows We are now polishing off our sequins for our
50 th Birthday party on the 15th November. The evening
promises to be truly spectacular. The Joe Ringer Band will
be playing music from the 60’s all the way through to the
present. Britain’s Got Talent dance duo, Twist and Pulse
will be bringing their unique routines and comedy to the
dance floor, Panto favourite, Ant Payne, will be MC for
the night and topping the bill we have top comedian,
Josh Widdicombe. There is also rumour of a cake!
But as we approach the end of the year we are looking
forward to a bumper panto season with Peter Pan
starring Union J heart throb JJ Hamblett in the title role.
The one thing has shone through in all of our
conversations and events this year is that The Woodville
belongs to Gravesend and the residents hold it dear to
them for memories of the past and memories yet to come.
