TOWNSPOTLIGHT
Spotlight on BROMLEY cont.
High Elms Country Park
At High Elms Country Park there are 250
acres of countryside to enjoy and explore
– as well as a fantastic 150-acre golf course.
There is a bit of everything here – woodland,
nature centre, ice well, formal gardens,
wildflower meadows, BEECHE (Bromley
Environmental Education Centre at High
Elms), plus a lovely café too! High Elms
Country Park is a Site of Special Scientific
Interest (SSSI).
Christmas Tree Farm
Despite its rather festive name, Christmas
Tree Farm is open all year round, and offers
a lovely day out for the family. At just £4 for
adults and £2 for children up to 16, it’s rather
a bargain too! Come to the farm and have
a go at feeding the animals (sheep, cows,
alpacas, pigs and more) with special food
purchased from the farm shop. In the colder
weather why not sip a steaming mug of
creamy hot chocolate from the kitchen, or
have an ice cream in summer? Of course,
nearer Christmas there is nowhere better to
buy your tree from than right here!
Bethlem Museum of the Mind
Located in nearby Beckenham, the Bethlem
Museum of the Mind was once the Bethlem
Royal Hospital, founded in 1247. This was
the first institution in the UK to specialise
in mental health, and it is still in use today.
The Bethlem Museum of the Mind was
opened by Grayson Perry in 2015 and
houses an incredible and thought-
provoking collection of mental health
archives and equipment.
DINING OUT
The Fireball Pizza Company
The Fireball Pizza Company is somewhere
you’re sure to enjoy. The pizzas are freshly
made to order on site with utter care and
attention, plus the variety of toppings you
can choose from is fantastic. All the pizzas
are cooked in an authentic wood-fired oven

at 450°C (which means cooking times tend
to be less than 90 seconds!). Once the pizzas
are eaten you can enjoy some homemade
ice cream too, or even some cheesecake.
It’s simple, it’s tasty and it’s one of Bromley
residents’ very favourite places to eat.
Nam Thai
Whether you enjoy a delicious meal in the
restaurant or you decide to take it away to
eat at home, the same amazing quality and
wonderful taste will be yours. The food is
created by Thai chefs who are highly trained,
and the ingredients are high quality and
authentic. The menu includes items such
as pad pik pow (stir fried with mixed peppers,
onion, chilli paste and spices), kaeng
massaman (southern-style curry, turmeric-
infused and hearty, simmered with coconut
milk, potatoes and peanuts) and hoi
malangphu (stir fried mussel with
lemongrass, chill and coconut milk).
Assos Restaurant
The food at Assos is vibrantly and
authentically Mediterranean. The menu
changes often, giving you the chance to try
a wide variety of delicious dishes which
could include tarama (smoked cod roe with
a smooth homemade creamy sauce), lamb
sarma beyti (marinated minced lamb
wrapped in bread with cheese and topped
with tomato sauce, drizzled with butter,
served with yogurt and rice) or mitite kofte
(minced meatballs cooked in a red wine
sauce).
Madisons
Madisons is a family-run, friendly restaurant
in Bromley that was opened in 1996 and
has remained popular ever since. There is
a great kids’ menu, a delicious à la carte
menu and a happy, party-like atmosphere
for everyone who goes there. Food includes
all the favourites such as barbecue ribs,
nachos, a 16-ounce T-bone steak, butterfly
Cajun chicken and you can even build your
own burger from a variety of different meat
and vegetable options.

TOP SPOT
The Glades has been a permanent fixture on
Bromley High Street since 1991, and we simply
couldn’t be without it now. This welcoming
shopping centre is home to 135 different stores
from homewares to fashion to technology, and
plenty of restaurants and cafés too. As well as all
the shopping and eating that can be done here,
there are often free events in the centre including
Halloween fun and a Christmas winter wonderland
complete with Father Christmas.
DID YOU KNOW?
Spam, spam, spam… The famous Monty Python
sketch in which everything on the menu in a café
consisted of spam in some form or another was
set in the fictional Green Midget Café which was
said to be located in Bromley.
