CHARITY KENT-BASED CHARITY, HOSPICES OF HOPE, OPENS TWO NEW HOSPICE CENTRES KENT-BASED CHARITY, HOSPICES OF HOPE, HAS RECENTLY OPENED TWO NEW CENTRES – A CHILDREN’S RESPITE AND THERAPY CENTRE IN ROMANIA AND A NEW HOSPICE CENTRE IN SERBIA. The children’s centre is in a beautiful summer estate called Copaceni, which was donated to the charity by the Florescu family. Sister St John the Baptist, one of the original donors, travelled from Minster Abbey in Kent to take part in the opening ceremony. She remembers playing in the grounds of the estate before it was confiscated by the communist regime. Copacen Manor house The facility is the first of its kind in Romania and will provide respite care and therapy for children living with rare or life-limiting illness such as cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy. It will also offer temporary emergency accommodation for families facing homelessness, a common situation with children requiring constant care. Copaceni is already used as a base for Sister St Jean the Baptist and Miruna cutting the ribbon the charity’s summer trips for children, which are run by volunteers from the UK. The hospice centre in Belgrade is unique in Serbia. It will provide a base for the existing home care service but will also house a new outpatient unit and a new daycare centre. The charity is now looking at opening an in- patient hospice. According to executive director of the charity, Alex Padureanu, the need for the services offered by these new centres is immense. In both countries the majority of people face terminal or life-limiting illness with little or no treatment whatsoever. www.hospicesofhope.co.uk Over 50 years of life-saving work The Kenward Trust is nationally recognised as a centre of excellence, and expertise in dealing with drug and alcohol related issues. of 9 Service Thanksgiving 16 Classics at Kenward An afternoon of celebration for our annual open air service.
